Chris Davis - St. Norbert - Seine River
Why did you decide to run in the 2018 (Winnipeg Civic Election / School Board Election)?
I fell in love with the area after a short time here. It’s a busy, yet very quiet area. Lots of Shops nearby, busses, schools and green space that make you feel hours outside the city, a farmers market with fresh vegetables and healthy options grown locally here in Manitoba. This is where I raise my 3 children with my beautiful wife.
We have a good city with a lot of great history and lots to do. I want to be a part of making our home an amazing place to live and a beautiful clean city to come visit.
I am not a politician already, I don’t have someone else’s agenda in my head. I think city council needs more people on it that all of the voters can relate to.
What experience will you bring to complement your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?
In the past years I have been V.P of the LaSalle Lightning Football Club, A member of the MGEU’S Young Members Committee. I have volunteered on event committees.
My experience comes from LIFE, living here and hearing all the concerns everyone has. It’s my time to fight back for my community and give back in big better ways.
I like the direction that our community is headed in. I would like to continue the efforts already in place and bring in fresh ideas from our community members.
What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?
1) The most important issue I would to stand for is honesty, transparency, and to be someone who listens and acts on what my voters want.
2) Working with communities, and the Bear Clan to make our streets and neighbourhoods safer.
3) Prioritizing of which roads need the most repairs and focus on those, putting pressure construction projects with penalties and/or bonus from monies raised by fines collected. Any road being repaired on a bus route will be subjected to a set amount for everyday there is no one working that site. If the road is a major route work must conclude on weekends.
4) Street cleaning including snow removal needs some serious addressing. Everyone pays taxes every street needs to be treating equally.
5) Safer school zones. Easy to use pick up/drop off zone, more enforcement during those peak times.
6) Updates and more funding to community clubs, splash pads, pools, upgrade and add better safer play structures. Reuse the old ones and donate them to schools/parks in Manitoba that have nothing.
7) Drop in centers for youth. Multi-purpose gathering areas for seniors that offer indoor space for rainy days also easy to access and easy to use trails accommodating all abilities.
What is something that you appreciate about the (City of Winnipeg / the ward / the school ward or school division) you wish to represent?
I love this city. I was raised in Transcona and moved to St.Norbert to raise my kids. We picked this area because is still feels like a small community. I know all my neighbours and they know me. We have friends in Fort Richmond and River Park South and I feel the same way when I visit them. The St.Norbert – Seine River Ward has many communities in it and they all feel close.
We are the heart of friendly Manitoba and I want to help this city show that we are better and different that most cities.
Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?
I want to represent the St.Norbert-Seine River ward. Even after the election I will continue going door to door talking with people in the ward. I will make sure that if elected my voters will never feel like I have let them down. I’m trying to run a cost effective campaign. I want my voters to know I will not waste tax money in city hall.
I’m a regular guy with a wife and 3 kids. I can relate to most of the families in my ward. I bring my kids to and from sports and activities after long work days. I play hockey out of Dakota Community Center in the winter and golf in the summer.
I want my kids to see that they can be anything they want to be if they try.
