Winnipeg Election 2022

1. To increase support for teachers in the classroom by providing more education assistants in the rooms. Providing an extra pair of hands in the classroom will help the teacher spend more one-on-one time with students that have higher needs.

2. To reduce the amount of upper administration in RETSD. RETSD has about half the number of students that Winnipeg School Division has, yet we have almost the same number of upper administrators (those above school principals). I would look at amalgamating positions such as superintendents.

3. To build a “bottom-up” approach in the division, where teachers have more of a voice on what they need in the classroom. With a bottom-up approach, teachers would communicate the needs of their students to the principals of the schools. The principals would then bring these to the superintendents. This model would give teachers an outlet to be heard.

4. To lobby the provincial government for additional schools in RETSD. We have not had any new schools in built in RETSD. Other areas in Winnipeg have had multiple new schools built, but the Transcona-River East area has been neglected. I would encourage RETSD to lobby our local MLAs to bring this matter up.
