Questionnaire Response

Pierre Attallah - St. James - Assiniboia - Centre Ward

What got you into politics?

When I was in middle school I first learned about politics. I learned that any community member could be nominated to speak on behalf of the people if they shared their views. I also learned that this God given democratic process was a good way to get changes made. I can see the growing number of issues facing our community and feel that my ability to listen and hear from the people will help keep us on the right track to a prosperous future for all community members.

What experience will you bring to compliment your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?

I have a B.Sc. from the U of M and 21 years experience in my field with my business PALLIX Internet Security. The skills and experience that I have acquired over the years will be applied to the Board. I am already familiar with the laws that govern the school board such as the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and the Public Schools Act and have experience applying these Acts.

I also have experience with HourOfCode.com where children as young as 6 years old can learn fundamental concepts of programming robots and computers. This is a fun event that children of all ages may take part in. With the approval of the other board members I could use my experience to formulate extracurricular activities for interested students to take part in or even during a portion of class time. In other schools around the world this is already part of the curriculum.

Further, I have experience working in a team environment on large projects. With my background I would be a valuable member to the school board.

What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?

Open source software solutions within the school division would save a large amount of money, reduce wasteful spending and improve infrastructure. With this win/win situation these savings could then be used collaboratively by the board directly in the classrooms towards things such as EA’s, Social workers, etc.

The SJASD has been using formsite.com to collect sensitive, private & confidential information from families. By using this site parents have been sending their private/sensitive information to another country governed by laws outside Canada which state that it may be shared in turn with other countries/agencies and/or advertisers. This is illegal according to Canadian Law and I would seek to correct it by having  information collected directly by the school division locally.

SOGI123: Kindergarten is too young to be discussing sexual preferences or showing young children sexually explicit images. Federal Law already states that this type of material is illegal for children’s viewing. Inclusion can be taught in a more appropriate way. Further, any program that does not allow for parent feedback has no place in public schools.

Declaration of Human Rights states: Parents have the right to decide how children receive education… This is one of the reasons we elect school trustees.

Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

In regards to the news story, I tried to reach out to this person but was unsuccessful and they did not get back to me. I wish them well and continue to proudly campaign and bring my message to as many people as possible. I encourage anybody wanting to learn more to visit my website at PierreAttallah.pallix.ca

It is uplifting to see people turn into supporters after having the opportunity to chat with them or share my campaign material. I wish all candidates the best of luck and send a big thanks to my growing list of supporters.

With four candidates running for three positions voters may vote one, two or three times. Voting once in the school trustee section is a valid ballot.

Best regards,

Pierre N. Attallah B.Sc.
