Questionnaire Response

Andrew Podolecki - North Kildonan

What got you into politics?

I’ve been involved in Politics since I was 15 years-old. I’ve always wanted to help people, make an impact on the world and improving it. The only way I saw in doing so, was to get involved in politics. Along with having a strong sense of service to my country and community that my family has in the past, serving Canada in World War I, World War II, Korean War, and The General  Strike of 1919.

What experience will you bring to compliment your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?

I have worked in a multitude of industries and seen countless walks of life in my work experiences. I have worked in Retail, Health-care, Hospitality, Restaurants, Service Industry, Insurance, Public Sector, Private Sector and Non-profit. I am currently an Insurance Manager, and have been for a few years now. As an insurance manager, I have seen the importance of having a plan, and ensuring we are proceeding with ideas, plans, and policies with security, assurances, and factoring in unexpected situations.

I have ran for City Council twice before in the North Kildonan Ward, and Provincial office twice, as well.

I have attended and studied at the University of Winnipeg and Universite’ du Montreal, studying in Political Science, City Planning, Economics, Environmental Science, and History.

What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?

Simply put, I’m wanting to put our public services first and ensuring they have the tools and resources to perform their jobs effectively. That our tax dollars are being used for the services we want a need.

Better Snow clearing & Street Cleaning, Restoring Library hours, affordable, accessible, & reliable Transit, Ensuring our community pools and wading pools are open and accessible to all, improving our community centres, and many more.

The two big issues I want to be a big advocate for is Implementing the Master Transit Plan, dramatically improving our transit and Rapid Transit, along with Active Transportation. Also tackling the issues of homelessness, crime, and the opioid crisis.
