Questionnaire Response
Christine Jolly - Pembina Trails - 2
What got you into politics?
As a mom and educator, I have a deep passion for students and education and I will like to give back and serve my community as a School Trustee. I will advocate for our students and families and bring a strong voice and classroom perspective to the board.
What experience will you bring to compliment your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?
I will bring my 28 years as an educator and classroom teacher to compliment my role as a Trustee. I have a clear and strong understanding of the educational and social needs of our students and how best to support them and ensure that curriculum and social programs are in place to support them throughout their school experience. My ongoing interactions with parents and students throughout my years in the school system have given me a greater understanding of what parents are expecting from our school systems. As a mom of four children-who all graduated from schools in the Pembina Trails Division, I do understand the love parents have for their children and want to ensure that their children are given the best education and opportunity to succeed at school.
What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?
As a school trustee, I would like our School Division to focus on strengthening diversity within schools, classrooms, staff, and administration; support policies and teach anti-racial and anti-discriminatory lessons to foster growth, acceptance, and understanding of diverse cultures within its classrooms and school communities; help students and their families take an active role in their learning and school experience; ensure that our students continue to engage in a cosmopolitan and technologically advanced learning environment, and be competitive in today’s and tomorrow’s global market.
These issues are important to me because I believe that every child has the right to a full, fair, and unbiased education and that regardless to race, ethnicity and cultural uniqueness, all students should be given every opportunity to learn, grow, and develop to their fullest potential a caring and loving school environment. Also, students should be encouraged to participate in leadership positions within their classrooms and explore new and specialized curricular interests in all subject areas. I would also like to support and create opportunities for students in junior and high schools to receive mentorship training and other skills to enter teaching and other professional fields to ensure and support diversity and inclusion within our schools.
Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?
As a school trustee, I will not only bring a strong voice to the board, but, I will make sure that our school division continues to provide high-quality education in a safe, thoughtful, and caring environment; ensure that the schools in the division continue to produce critical thinkers and leaders, in our community, our Province and Country; ensure that all schools within the Division are ready, open, nurturing, and welcoming to all students and their families.
