Questionnaire Response

Colin Cherpako - Winnipeg - 5

What got you into politics?

Honestly I don’t feel like I’m into politics. I am getting involved with my community. I am choosing to put my name forward to represent my community on the school board. I have always liked helping people and at this time the biggest way I can help is to just try and get involved.

What experience will you bring to compliment your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?

I was an Educational Assistant for 8 years. I’ve worked with students with different challenges and had to adapt everyday. I was also very active with my Union eventually being elected president. During my time as Local President I worked with HR and the Senior Administration of the School Division including the Superintendent/CEO

I feel both of these roles have helped me understand the School Division at all levels. If I am elected on October 26th I will bring all that experience forward to be your voice on the board.

What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?

I want to do 3 major things.

1. Improve and expand the current programming such as breakfast, lunch, and after school programs.

I feel that our children need more opportunities to become the successful future leaders we as parents know they are.

2. Increased advocacy for children who are vulnerable and those who may get labeled “bad” even though they are just misunderstood

I worked with students like this as an EA for many years. Heck I was a student like this when I was in school struggling with my own ADHD. What I’ve learned most is kids just need to know they are respected and that someone out there has their backs. If elected I will be there for any student that needs someone in their corner.

3. Increased Transparency.

All too often people are elected and then forget they are the voice of their voters. If elected I won’t disappear. If you have an issue that the school board should deal with then I’m ready to hear it.

Please come out on Oct 26 and vote for a strong voice on the board. Vote for your voice on the board.
