What got you into politics?

I have been a literacy advocate , leader and volunteer in the community most of my adult life . My volunteerism and my passion to help encourage me to enter politics. I believe I can do more to serve my community being a public servant .

What experience will you bring to compliment your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?

As I mentioned I am a literacy advocate. I have volunteered as Teacher’s assistant to new immigrants and refugees learning  conversational English . I was also a board member in Literacy Works Manitoba , a non profit organization organization supporting and advocating for literacy in the province . I have a financial and business background which are vital tools in running an organization like the School Board. I have experience in leading various non profit organizations as chairperson , treasurer , events coordinator , fundraiser among other things. I will bring new ideas and policies to the table to represent the best interests of the students , parents and teachers .

What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?

I advocate to increase more meal programs and after school programs . I believe that children should have access to nutrition , food sustainability, child care and recreation . I will support to increase funding  in arts , music and sports program particularly to underprivileged and marginalized students . I will introduce adult  work training program and co op education to students attending the Winnipeg Adult Education Centre so they can prepare themselves in employment and career path after they finished their high school education. I also encourage and support equity , diversity and inclusion in the public education system. Implement bilingual and cultural programs in the curriculum, support staff for mental health program , liaison officer for new immigrants and  access support to LGBTQ students .

Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

I urge those who have not voted to go out and vote on October 26. Choose the right candidate who will represent the best interest of our stakeholders namely : students , parents and teachers . Use your voice to make a positive change in the public education system.  I believe that I am qualified to be your School Trustee in Ward 5 based on my experience, qualifications and platforms.
