What got you into politics?

After a wonderful career in public education, I now have the opportunity to give back to my community through school trusteeship.

In my experience, education goals are met best
through partnerships and open communication with parents, teachers, students and the
and community

I want to ensure
that the voices of this community
are brought to the board table, and acted upon.
I believe that with my experience and education I can make a positive contribution to the education of the students in LRSD.
I look forward to serving on a progressive board where the needs of the students are always at the forefront, and student learning is the main objective.

 

 

What experience will you bring to compliment your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?

Graduate of the University of Manitoba Bachelor of Education Degree, Post Baccalaurate Certificate in Education and Master of Education Degrees.
Classroom Teacher, Guidance Counsellor, Resource Teacher/Student Services Teacher, Basic French Specialist, Collaborative Teacher, Team Leader
Divisional Student Services Coordinator, responsible for the Behaviour/Autism support team, working with agencies and professionals to deliver support to students and their families. I prepared successful submissions to the government to secure funding, and assisted schools and families in planning for student success.
I am an experienced facilitator and have delivered a variety of workshops and courses to parents, students, teachers, community members and to the general public. Mental Health First aid, Behaviour support, funding, Responsive Classroom,Developmental Teaching
Courses for the Graduate Teacher Cohort, Mental Health Promotion in Schools for the University of Winnipeg, and Mental Health Promotion for Educators for the University Summer Institute.
I work for the Faculty of Education at the University of Winnipeg as a PBDE Education Counselling Practicum Supervisor, training teachers, graduate students, working towards become certified counsellors in our schools.

What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?

Open and authentic communication with the community and engaging the community in decision making opportunities.

Early intervention programming  including supporting the expansion of full day Kindergarten

Focus on literacy and numeracy and including  professional development

Evidence /research informed practice

Mental Wellness and Student Support Teams along with clinical services

Funding for students with exceptional needs and professional development for support staff

Support for the initiatives  diversity, equity, inclusion and anti racism

Continued support for Indigenous language and culture

At the center of all we do is successful practices to enhance student learning.

I am excited for the opportunity to serve my community as their school trustee.
