Questionnaire Response

Erin Glover - Winnipeg - 4

What got you into politics?

What got me interested in running for school trustee was seeing so much struggle for students and teachers during the pandemic. I am new to politics but have experience within the school systems, as well as being a mother to a 5 year old. It is something I am passionate about and another way I saw potential to make positive change within WSD schools.

What experience will you bring to compliment your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?

I have worked and volunteered in schools since 2005, in a number of school divisions and roles. I have worked in early childhood education, as an educational assistant, music instructor and French tutor and am currently in my final year of my Bachelors of Education and registering into the PBDE program to continue my studies to become a guidance counsellor.

I have a daughter of my own, and have volunteered on her daycare parent board of directors since 2019 so have experience sitting on a board overseeing policy and budget.

What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?

My top three issues would have to be:

1. socio-emotional well-being of students and staff: The pandemic left a large gap in socialization and learning in many students’ school experience, as well as being hard on teachers and families.

2. Inclusion: I have seen a huge surge of inclusion, in terms of LGBTQ2S+, culture and ability, but we cannot stop there  we need to listen to the needs of the students and make them feel heard and safe in our schools

3.  Arts programs: there are so many benefits of art, yet many extra-curricular activities and other programs have dwindled due to the pandemic and funding. I am a creative person myself, and want to ensure that students are able to engage and explore through visual and performing arts integrated into the classroom and outside of it as well.

Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

I may be new to politics but I know I could be an asset on the WSD board of trustees. I am motivated and driven when it comes to education, and think that student voice is important, and that is what I will focus on to guide my decisions and priorities.
