Questionnaire Response

Jamie Bonner - Winnipeg - 6

What got you into politics?

What got me into politics was the sense that I can do better then what is being done now. While I understand politics is team work I have the impression that Winnipeg School Division over the years hasn’t been working to it’s full potential. I would like to change that and leave a better school division in 2026 then what the community has in 2022.

What experience will you bring to compliment your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?

If elected as a School Trustee for Winnipeg School Division’s Ward 6 a can bring over a decade of experience sitting on my union’s local executive to the table. As president of my local I bring diverse outlooks and different opinions together and harness that talent to better the working lives of our members. I intend to do the same to the Winnipeg School Division. I will  work with my fellow trustees and contribute to improving Winnipeg School Division as I have done with my union.

What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?

As a school trustee my concern is communication. We need to do better involving the community, listening to students and parents, teachers and support staff. While you can’t make everyone happy all the time you certainly can build consensus and trust by sitting down and sharing ideas to a common goal.

Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

I have chosen to run a campaign that does not accept donations nor am I erecting lawn signs. I believe private money corrupts politics and it leads to good community based ideas being replaced with narrow individualistic ones. I also believe that by not erecting campaign signs it shows my commitment to the community by not polluting it for my own personal advantage with plastic.
