Questionnaire Response

Joshua Fidelak - Winnipeg - 5

What got you into politics?

I don’t like the phrase “getting into politics”.  I’ve been “into politics” ever since I realized that politics surrounds me everyday, from how I interact with my neighbors, employer, community, and beyond. And that’s why I’m running, because I believe in this community and I want to put in the work to ensure its strength is amplified and properly heard.

What experience will you bring to compliment your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?

As a labour stewart, I have years of experience in advocating for people against systems set out to harm them, planning budgets, and navigating bureaucracies that aren’t designed with the layperson in mind.

As a community organizer, I’ve worked with individuals, communities, and all sorts of profit and non-profit organizations to amplify their perspective and fight to make sure justice is provided to them. As School Trustee my goal would be to leverage these skills in the community, by helping teacher, families and community members to empower themselves and ensure that the best ideas from the neighborhood are heard and best outcomes achieved.

What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?

  1. Expand access and improve the quality of school nutrition. Kids can’r learn when they’re hungry, so good breakfasts and lunches should be an absolute right of all students in the division.
  2. Ensure that Divisional policy meets the high standards of diversity and inclusion. Schools should be a place for students to learn and grow, and everyone to be respected and kept safe within them.
  3. I pledge to work throughout the entire term within the community, keeping lines of communication open and actively try to build more power within the neighborhood. Alone, I will do all I can to make sure our values are reflected on the board. Together, we can do a lot more.
