What experience will you bring to compliment your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?
School Trustee is the highest authority in a School Division. Without relevant qualifications, a trustee cannot become an effective custodian of public trust. A School Board needs someone who understands education & new developments in the fields of studies, who understands finance, who understands technology, who understands governance, who understands local needs, and who can connect with the local population. I possess all these skills, experience, knowledge and qualifications. I have taught University of Manitoba, University of Winnipeg, Brandon University, YellowQuill University College, and University College of the North courses. I also worked as Chief Financial Officer at YWCA Thompson, Project Controls Coordinator at Vale. I also worked as School Board Trustee at SDML. I worked for five years as Board Member and Volunteer Treasurer at Thompson Recycle Center.
I am MBA-Master of Business Administration, Bachelor of Science, OCP DBA – Oracle Certified Professional Database Administrator, Professional Certificate in Data Analysis, Professional Scrum Master (Agile Project Management), and possess various certifications including Google Project Management Certificate, Python Programing Language, R Programming Language, and Certifications from Microsoft Corporation, IBM, John Hopkins University, & UC Berkeley.
What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?
We need to come up with and meet with the challenges which this dynamic world is putting on us. We can not afford to keep doing same as we have been doing in the past. We need to invest and promote technology in our schools. Pembina Trails School Divisions is well positioned as in its boundaries lies the largest university of the province – University of Manitoba. Future lies in technology, our schools need to produce tech savvy kids, who can further excel at U of M, and can claim their share in the fast-growing technological job market. COVID has changed a lot, it actually expedited the adaption of technology, and it looks like we are not yet prepared to take advantage. Other important issues of ward-3 are transportation and shortage of schools. With the support of other Trustees, I will direct Senior Administration to buy more buses, and serve the needs of students. Also, with the support of other Trustees, I will direct Senior Administration to coordinate with the Provincial government officials for building more schools in ward-3. If a school division will not ask for new schools, then how will the government know?
Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?
My humble suggestion to voters, “School Board Trustee” is a key position, please evaluate candidate profiles before voting. Your children’s education is their future, and do not compromise on it.
As a team, we can promote education throughout the schools of Pembina Trails School Division.
“The seeds of the future are sown in the present.
Thanks you,
Regards,
Saima Aziz
