Questionnaire Response

Salvatore Infantino - Daniel McIntyre

What got you into politics?

As a long term resident and business owner, I want to make a change in the Daniel McIntyre Ward. The community needs a voice they haven’t had in many years.

What experience will you bring to compliment your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee)?

As City Councillor for the Daniel McIntyre Ward, I intend to tap into my vast experience organizing community events and festivities for many years. I pride myself on being a “connector” who rallies people to work together to problem solve and also to enjoy all that our community has to offer!

I have also owned and operated a business on Sargent Avenue for over 35 years, so I have firsthand knowledge of the concerns facing our neighbourhood and surrounding areas. I have experience and relationships with all levels of government, and will continue to work with them and any others who will help get the job done!

What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as (Mayor / Councillor / School Trustee), and why are these issues important to you?

My main platform goals revolve around addressing the safety and security of the residents of Daniel McIntyre and those who visit our area of the city.

Safety and security is dependant on many factors. A few factors I address in my platform and intend to pursue if elected range from infrastructure repairs to social services restructuring. I intend to highlight the importance of accessible sidewalks with timely and effective snow removal and repairs. This is an issue effecting residents of all age and mobility and directly impacts the enjoyment of our neighbourhood.

The most pressing issue I intend to address is the urgent need for better addiction and mental health services. I am deeply committed to the health and wellbeing of our residents and to working with the province while holding them accountable to find solutions to poverty and homelessness, which includes better substance dependence and mental health services.

I plan to have on-going communication with community groups about how we can advocate for access to better services. It is important to me to review effective strategies in other jurisdictions and I’m prepared to explore long term solutions that will include advocating for options based on harm reduction principles.

Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

I would like the city to create a more active role in the day-to-day safety and tranquility of our community. Looking at ways to support the community to ensure we can enjoy all we have to offer and feel safe and have peace while doing it is a priority. Working with local businesses and creating a more active neighbourhood watch program would be something I would work to initiate as soon as possible. I find getting organized and standing together can have tremendous effect. No more ignoring our concerns in Daniel McIntyre!
